This app is unbelievably good. It plays reliably at the level you select. There are various modes of play and I prefer the "team game"most of the time and their version of "live" duplicate for the rest.
The team game pits you against the computer and then presents the same hands to another pair of pairs (both computer) to see how well you did compared to a separate playing of the hand.
They have included various levels of assistance, allow you to "take back" bids and tricks, and provide a detailed after-play review, all in an effort to provide tools to improve your game.
The duplicate option allows you to play a set of hands with a computer partner and opponents and compare the results to others playing your hand with the same arrangement. It costs a dollar or two for each group of hands and your get money credited back if you do well. If you come in at or near the top every once in a while you can keep playing for free.
Some nice features for some of their duplicate play are that you dont need to be "online" to play and you do not need to publish the results. You need to be connected to register to play a set of hands and again to report the results. In between you can be on the moon (with no Internet) and still complete play. You have hours to finish a group of hands, typically from four to eight. And when you are done you can choose to report your scores as you, anonymously, or not at all. Bad play doesnt hurt anyone and nobody but you needs to know it happened.
All in all, this is the best online environment for enjoying bridge and improving while you do it.
Regarding the handful of 1-star reviews for the latest version... They are all expressing shock and awe at a color scheme that is slightly different from the previous version. It is different and a bit more strident than before. However, having used it for a few weeks more than those other reviewers I can say that whatever I remember as being different now strikes me as an improvement.
That said, the game authors, for better or worse, have already said they will be reverting to the old color scheme. My recommendation to them (not that they listen to my recommendations right away) would be to include configurable themes in version 5.1 so people can select what they want and change it periodically to keep things fresh.
So, in conclusion (bet you thought I had already done that), if you like to play bridge then the prices for this app is a small price for the hours of entertainment you will receive.
